Nara Park is an unparalleled historical park where precious historical and cultural heritage sites—including Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Tōdai-ji Temple, the National Museum, and Shōsōin Treasure House—coexist with rich natural landscapes across a vast area of 660 hectares.
The deer population in Nara Park is 1,325 (from “Nara Park Quick Guide”). Legend holds that the deity enshrined at Kasuga Taisha (Takemikazuchi-no-Mikoto) arrived riding a white deer.

The deer inhabiting Nara Park are designated as National Natural Monuments and are protected wildlife. Capturing them or intentionally harming them constitutes a violation of the Cultural Properties Protection Law and is punishable by law. Individuals are strictly prohibited from capturing deer from Nara Park for any purpose, including deer leather production.

A popular shop named after the primeval forests of Kasuga. Its series featuring patterns engraved with stamps, reminiscent of treasures housed in the Shōsōin Repository, are rare items exclusive to this shop, exuding the history, charm, and elegance of the ancient capital of Nara.
